HOW IT WORKS

1. Choose a Story

Maybe your story is very obvious to you. For some people, their story is not quite so clear but don't worry, we are very skilled at discovering interesting or poignant aspects of people's lives.

You can choose to (A) have an interview with us (in person or via Skype/video call) or (B) you can record your story or even write it yourself.  

If you are not sure what story to tell we will just ask some general questions to get us thinking about how to draw your story out.  

2.  Interview Time (Option A)

If you choose our interview option (Option A)  we will arrange a suitable time to chat with you and email you prior to this time with some tips to help your story flow. During the interview we will record our chat and prompt you with a few pertinent questions where necessary to ensure that your story flows naturally.  

3.  Record Your Own Story (Option B)

If you choose to provide your own story you can either upload a digital file of your recorded story (we will provide you with instructions) or email us with your written story.

4. Photos & Mementos

Photos are an important part of your story, however if you cannot find many relevant pictures then we will work with what you have, and perhaps supplement with other personal mementos or objects.  If your photos are not in digital format then we can scan your photos for you.

5. Be Yourself

We want your story to be an accurate reflection of who you are, as that is who your friends and loved ones want to know more about.  We recommend that rather than rehearsing what you want to say, perhaps simply look at your pictures and let them evoke memories and feelings that will then flow while you are telling your story.  You are welcome to list some bullet points as memory aids, but the more natural your words, the better the story will read.

6. Behind the Scenes

We use the recorded conversation to type up transcript of your story or edit your written story if required.  We then start laying out your book, using your pictures and your words. Sometimes we will alter syntax to make the story flow better, but we never change the essence of your words.  We will send you a proof of the text for you to approve.  When we are happy with the layout we send everything off to the publishers and a few weeks later we receive the finished product: a beautifully bound hard cover book containing your personal story and special photos/mementos.

7. Want more than one copy?

Extra copies of your personal story-book can be ordered any time.  Your story will be stored on a secure server so that it is kept safe for future friends and family.
